Metallurgical and Material Engineering (MSc)

1. General Information

Metallurgical and Materials Engineering examines the processes of transforming the raw materials to the useful materials in a wide range changes from daily live needs to automotive, aircraft/space and energy industries and aims to get the engineers expert in this transformation processes. Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Master Science Program provides advanced knowledge and research ability to the students in the production, characterization and selection of materials for the specific applications. All the metallic, ceramic and polymeric materials are of interest to these research areas.

Graduate Program of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering started education, training and research activities in 2014.

                Attendants of this program are required to take 7 courses and 1 seminar and then to prepare a thesis based on a research subject and defend it orally. The program provides learning to train specialist researchers in accordance with academic programs.

6. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The MSc program consists of minimum of seven courses, a seminar course, specialization field courses and a thesis study. According to the ECTS regulations, to graduate from the program, minimum 60 ECTS credits of course work and 60 ECTS credit thesis study must be completed. The letter grade of the courses must be at least CC, and the cumulative grade ponit average (CGPA) must be at least 3.0/4.0..

Graduates of this program may find jobs as the expert in government and private sectors such as defense, automotive, casting, aviation, ceramic, refractory, glass, metal, mining, plastic and concrete industries.

11. Examinations, Measurement and Evaluation

Evaluation and assesment methods for each course are determined  by the course instructor and announced in the beginning of the term. The relevant information is described in the Course Information Form of each course. Grades/success evalutions of courses are conducted according to the ESOGU-GER.

12. Graduation Requirements

The MSc program consists of minimum seven courses, a seminar course, specialization field courses and a thesis study. According to the ECTS regulations, minimum of 60 ECTS credits of course work and 60 ECTS credit  thesis study must be taken.

The MSc program is four semesters and the maximum completion period is six semesters.

To graduate from the program, the student must write their  thesis according to the Thesis Writing Guide determined by the Graduate School and succesfully defend in front of jury.

15. Department / Program Opportunities

The curriculum of our Program covers a wide range of subjects vary from the traditional production metallurgy to the nanomaterial which is going to be important part of the future science. The courses have been chosen to train well-equipped Metallurgical and Materials Engineers who can renew themselves continuously under changing conditions. In our department, mechanical testing, casting, characterization, metallography, heat treatment, powder metallurgy and corrosion laboratories are present to make research for our graduate students.
