1.General Information
Department of Economics aims to equip students with theoretical and practical knowledge about economics which studies the behavior of economic units (individuals, institutions and systems) and the choices that they make with respect to the allocation of scarce resources between production and consumption. It is aimed that our graduates should be able to follow the developments in our country and in the world closely, interpret the data related to the economic sectors and countries, and make predictions based upon these. The department conducts research on the productive use of all resources used to meet human needs, on betterment in welfare of the society through increase in natural, monetary and human resources and on distribution of goods and services produced based upon these activities. The program gives the students a through education in theory, policy and history of economics; economic development and international economy, statistics, econometrics, business, mathematics and finance; and a two week internship at appropriate institutions is required.
2. Qualification
Bachelor of Arts in Economics is given to students who succesfully complete the program. Graduates of economics have the title of Economist.

5. Recognition of Former Education
Recognition of prior non-formal learning in the Turkish higher education institutions vertical, horizontal and transitions within the university is determined by the Board of Higher Education is made under “SWITCHING BETWEEN SHORT AND UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS OF HIGHER EDUCATİON INSTITUTIONS, DOUBLE MAJOR, MINOR AND CREDIT TRANSFER BETWEEN CORPORATE ACTION ON BASIS OF REGULATION”.
6. Competency Requirements and Terms
A student is required to successfully complete the designated program of courses meet a minimum of 240 ECTS credit requirement and have a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00 and no FF, DZ or YZ grades.
7. Objectives of the Program
The department of Economics educates people who are willing to do research and work on the various levels of economic life. The economic theory is given as an academic formation to students who are going to work on private and government sectors with the help of math, statistics and econometrics. The education of economics contains two basic processes. The first is to teach economic? principals and tools which will be used after graduating from university and to educate high quality labor force in changing global conditions. The second is to develop systematic and independent thinking ability, which will be helpful in every aspect of peoples life, and to give students academic formation in economic subjects. In this context, in the economics department, apart from economics courses there are business, law and public finance classes. These classes give students chances to find better jobs in a wide range of areas. During first two years, students take theoretical courses and completing these courses successfully they can take the third and fourth year classes. In the third and fourth year, there are a variety of elective courses, which are related to the areas that students desire to work after graduation. Thus, students are favoring courses in wide range and having the chance of graduating with a strong infrastructure. The department has four main branches Tehese are: Economic Theory, Economic Policy, Economic Growth and International Economics and History of Economics.
This programme intends to include all kinds of practical and theoretical aspects of the field of study and it aims to furnish students with the knowledge and understanding of economic concepts, theories and techniques used in business, government and academic settings to enable students to analyze markets, economic policies and economic theories to equip students with basic knowledge about the Turkish and world economy, quantitative research skills and independent and critical thinking abilities.

9. Careers
Both public and private sector job opportunities for graduates of business adm. is quite high.They have opportunity to find a job in various ministries as an inspectors, auditors, and specialist assistant. Additionally, state and privately owned banks, research institutions, local or international companies that graduates are employed in the institutions section.
In addition, facilities are also available to make an academic career in the field of economics.
10. Further Study
May apply to master's or doctorate programmes in any field or proficiency in social arts programmes.
11. Testing, Measurement and Evaluation
A variety of assessment methods such as mid-term(s), assignment(s), exercise(s), project(s), practice(s), and a final exam are implemented in the programme. Assessment methods may include classical test(s), multiple-choice test(s), homework(s), performance evaluation(s), and product evaluation(s). In order to graduate from the programme, cumulative GPA must be minimum 2.00. A course grade is constituted by evaluating the above stated elements and given by using letters.
