Department of Pediatric Dentistry

1. General Information 

Pediatric dentistry is an age-defined department that provides comprehensive preventive and curative oral and dental health services for healthy and/or individuals who require special attention, starting from infancy, childhood and adolescence. Pediatric dentistry includes caries prevention practices, restorative and endodontic treatments of deciduous and permanent teeth, interventions to prevent the formation of gingival diseases, preservation of arch integrity by preventing tooth loss as a result of caries or trauma, early treatment of tooth development disorders and malocclusions. However, the primary aim in pediatric dentistry is to take measures to prevent problems from occurring rather than solving the problems that have arisen.

Students who successfully complete the program are awarded a doctorate in pedodontics.

4. Acceptance Requirements

In order to apply to the doctoral program, candidates must be graduates of the Faculty of Dentistry in Turkey or abroad, whose equivalence certificate has been accepted by the Higher Education Institution, and have a master's degree. The candidate's Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) score must be at least 55 numerical and at least 55 from YDS, e-YDS, YÖKDİL or TIPDİL (for doctoral programs in Dentistry and Medicine).

5. Acceptance of Former Educations

Students who enroll directly in the Pedodontics doctorate program or come with lateral transfer may be exempted from some courses within the framework of certain regulations. Students will be exempted from courses if the course content is approved by the relevant college/faculty/institute administrative board and applied in due time.

6. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to receive a doctorate degree, a doctoral student must successfully complete at least seven courses, seminars, proficiency exam, thesis proposal, specialization course and thesis work, not less than 21 credits (240 AKTS).

7. Program Profile (Objectives)

It is the training of individuals who have comprehensive knowledge in the field of Pedodontics, can perceive scientific research at the level of clinical and basic sciences, plan and conduct research, and show a multidisciplinary approach in treatment planning for the benefit of pediatric patients.

8. Program Qualification (Outputs)

Students who complete the program will be able to analyze all oral and dental health needs of infants, children and adolescents, apply preventive-therapeutic programs, behavioral guidance techniques, all oral treatments under general anesthesia, preventive orthodontic treatments, diagnosis and treatment of maxillofacial injuries. have the authority, skills and equipment to implement it. Define craniofacial growth and development, occlusion, facial development and functional anomalies. Have the knowledge and equipment to plan and conduct research with the help of a consultant, write a thesis and scan a bibliography alone.

9. Employment Opportunities

Graduates of this program can be employed in universities affiliated to the Higher Education Institution and in need of faculty members, if they meet the necessary conditions. They can also find opportunities to work in different government institutions and private practice.

15. Department Resources

Within the Department; 3 clinics where clinical education and training can be done, 1 x-ray room (5m2), 1 meeting room, 10 dental units, various consumables required for treatment, 8 airerotors, 8 clinical micromotors, 10 led light sources, 1 unit digital camera, 2 endodontic motors, 2 apex determining device. In addition, there are 2 panoramic x-ray devices, 1 computerized tomography device, 3 periapical x-ray devices, endodontic microscope, laser device, cad-cam device and 3 autoclaves within the faculty.
