Mining Engineering (PhD)

1. General Information

The department of mining engineering was established and engineering education was started in 1975. Since 1983, graduate education has been started at Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences of Eskişehir Osmangazi University. Today, undergraduate, graduate and doctorate programs are continuing with success in line with the determined student quotas.

The Master of Science program consists of two branches:

• Mining Operation

• Mineral Processing

The department provides qualified and modern education with sufficient number of well-equipped classrooms and laboratories. It is among the first 6 departments in our country to be preferred among the Mining Engineering Departments.

2. Name of the qualification

Doctorate (PhD)

 3. Level of qualification

3 (QF-EHEA)

 4. Admission requirements

Actions are taken in accordance with the ESOGÜ Graduate Education Regulations and ESOGU Postgraduate Education Regulation and Implementation Procedures and Principles

5. Recognition of prior learning

Actions are taken in accordance with the ESOGÜ Graduate Education Regulations and ESOGU Postgraduate Education Regulation and Implementation Procedures and Principles

 6. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The PhD program consists of minimum seven courses (compulsory/elective), a seminar course, a proficiency exam, a thesis proposal, specialization field courses and a thesis study. According to the ECTS regulations, to graduate from the program minimum 60 ECTS credits of course work and 120 ECTS credit thesis study work must be taken. The letter grade of the courses must be at least CB for each course, and the cumulative grade point average (CGPA) must be at least 3.0/4.0.  After the courses are completed, the proficieny exam is conducted to evaluate students' fundamental and field knowledge.

Student who succesfully passes the proficiency exam presents the thesis proposal to the Thesis Committee. According to the ESOGÜ-GER, after the thesis proposal is accepted, the student must submit and defend Thesis Progression Report to the Thesis Committee, once every 6 month. In thesis study period, the student must  submit at least 3 reports and succesfully defend them.  At the end of thesis study, the student  must take the thesis defend examination. To graduate from the program, the student must  succesfully defend the thesis that was written according to the Thesis Writing Guide.

9. Graduates Employment Opportunities

Our graduates are successfully performing engineering services in the state and private sector. They are also employed in many fields of domestic and foreign companies engaged in exploration, extraction and enrichment. In particular, our graduates work extensively in the mining sectors such as underground mining, open-pit mining and ore enrichment plants, marble mining and processing plants. In addition to these sectors, highways, railways, tunneling work, joint occupational health and safety service providers units, mining bureau services firms, Turkey Iron & Steel Enterprises, State Hydraulic Works, institutions such as cement factories can be listed as employers of our graduates.
