1. General Information

The department’s past extends to 1982 however it started education as connected to the Eskişehir Osmangazi University established by the law on 1993. The graduate studies are opened in 1982. The goal of the doctorate program is to train graduates that have high academic and scientific levels in statistics field, can utilize the fundamental theories of statistics, can follow the contemporary developments in the statistics field, can apply the novel developments of the statistics field to various disciplines. The education language of the program is Turkish.

 6. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

 The PhD program consists of minimum seven courses (compulsory/elective), a seminar course, a proficiency exam, a thesis proposal, specialization field courses and a thesis study. According to the ECTS regulations, to graduate from the program minimum 60 ECTS credits of course work and 120 ECTS credit thesis study work must be taken. The letter grade of the courses must be at least CB for each course, and the cumulative grade point average (CGPA) must be at least 3.0/4.0.  After the courses are completed, the proficieny exam is conducted to evaluate students' fundamental and field knowledge.

Student who succesfully passes the proficiency exam presents the thesis proposal to the Thesis Committee. According to the ESOGÜ-GER, after the thesis proposal is accepted, the student must submit and defend Thesis Progression Report to the Thesis Committee, once every 6 month. In thesis study period, the student must  submit at least 3 reports and succesfully defend them.  At the end of thesis study, the student  must take the thesis defend examination. To graduate from the program, the student must  succesfully defend the thesis that was written according to the Thesis Writing Guide.

9. Graduates Employment Opportunities

Our students who graduate from the program can work at public and private institutions with the title of Doctor of Statistics. In addition, they can take on a job as Academician, System Analyst, Computer Software Expert, Data Analyst, Public Opinion Researcher, TUİK Expert, Quality Control Expert, Marketing and Sales Expert, Bank Inspector, Expert in Banks and Insurance Companies, Production, Finance and Accounting personnel.

 11. Examinations, Measurement and Evaluation

             Evaluation and assesment methods for each course are determined by the course instructor and announced at the beginning of the term. The relevant information is described at the Course Information Form for each course. Grades/success evalutions of courses are conducted according to the ESOGU-GER.

 

12. Graduation Requirements

         The PhD program consists of minimum of 21 credits for the students who are accepted with MSc degree, at least seven courses, a seminar course, a proficiency exam, a thesis proposal, specialization field courses and a thesis study. According to the ECTS regulations, minimum 60 ECTS credits of course work and 120 ECTS credit thesis study must be taken. The credits of the proficieny exam and the thesis proposal are both 30 ECTS . The required total credit is 240 ECTS.

     The PhD program is eight semesters, and the maximum completion time is twelve semesters. The letter grade of each course must be at least CB, and the CGPA must be at least 3.0/4.0.

    Students must succesfully complete their courses, pass the proficiency exam, defend the thesis proposal, and submit and succesfully defend at least three Thesis Progression Reports. To graduate from the program, the student must write their PhD dissertation according to the Thesis Writing Guide determined by the Graduate School and  succesfully defend in front of the jury.  .

15. Department / Program Opportunities

In the Statistics Department total of 16 academic personnel as 8 Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 5 Doctor Academic Personal, 1 academic staff, 4 teaching assistants and 1 administrative personnel work.

In the Statistics Department, within total of 380 m2 usage area, there are 21 offices and in total of 288 m2 usage area there are 4 classrooms and two laboratories with 4 computers in 12 m2 and 60 computers in 72 m2. 4 classrooms and 1 laboratory are equipped with fixed Data Show and 1 computer, and also there is 1 mobile Data Show.

Other than these, the classrooms of the Natural Sciences Institute can also be used.
